I went to show at the Belly Up. I saw Diego Roots. I have grown up with these artists from a young age. It is really fun to see them play because I do know them personally. The type of music they play is reggae. They draw a mostly younger crowd. The venue at the Belly Up is suited very well towards their type of music. I went with some friends and we had a great time visiting with the guys from the band. I would definitely recommend seeing this band play. It is a great show and draws a fun crowd.
My fathers and my own friend Chris Mayne is a professional wildlife photographer and has given me many pointers on my photography. It has helped me in the creation of my book this semester. The photos he takes are amazing and I have learned a lot about lighting and the best times to shoot. It has helped me to focus my photography and enabled my book to rise to greater heights. He has a website that everyone should check out…….chrismayne.net. Chris travels the country and follows the migratory paths of birds. He sends me shots of the day that he takes and they are amazing. He started taking shots of surfers around his local area of Encinitas. He then moved to nature and began increasing his portfolio. The images he captures are amazing. I have known him for the majority of my life, so it is nice to have a such a talented photographer on tap for information. He is one of my fathers best friends and they have grown up together. He has seen me grow up throughout the years. We have done many fishing, diving, and surf trips together. It is a pleasure to know him and I hope you all get to know his work as well.
I liked the work of David Hibbard because he incorporates a lot of landscape and natural scenery in his digital imagery. His style reminds me of my own. The areas that he is taking his photos and the angle at which he shoots is a lot like the imagery that I depict in my book. Hibbard works a lot with lighting and time of day. Colors seem to play a large role in his work. Many shots have beautiful tints and gradients. He works with macro and large scale scenery shots. Much of the same style that I incorporated in my own book. I have some good ideas after viewing some of his work.
Joanne Koltnow produces wonderful images of plants and flowers. I have recently become very interested in photography and love taking photos of plant life and flowers. She has taken her love of photography and made it into her own style. She has taken methods that we have learned this semester and incorporated into her own works. She takes scanned images of flowers, leaves, plants and other forms of plants life and presents them as photos. The images that are produced are fantastic. They transform into their own painterly style and take on a whole new look. She even scans flowers and plants in containers which transform in wonderful and unpredictable ways. I like her work and would like to incorporate some of her styles into my next book. I have recently beome familiar with the scanner at school and I like the options that it opens up. You can take just about anything and scan it into the computer and then adjust as you see fit. I will definitely use her technique in future projects to come.
This was a screening of the process that went into the making of The Lord of the Rings. WETA is a digital effects company. It specializes in visual effects and CGI technology. It was founded by Peter Jackson, Jamie Selkirk, and Richard Taylor in 1993. It is based out of Wellington, New Zealand. Weta Digital has created a number of custom made in-house proprietary software to enable them to achieve groundbreaking visual effects. They pioneered a program called Massive which allows large scale battles with many different characters fighting independently. This enabled them to conduct huge battle scenes in Lord of the Rings while maintaining a level of reality. WETA allows for all post production to done on site which enables them to reduce work time. They don’t have to outsource their work which is huge when working on massive projects such as Lord of the Rings. I have a huge respect for the visual effects that went into the making of the movie. They pioneered effects technology and have set the standard for upcoming films.
I attended a concert at the Belly Up. The artists playing were Slightly Stoopid. They are one of my favorite bands. They play a mix of acoustic, reggae, and punk rock music. There was a huge turnout for the concert and it was sold out. The sound at the Belly Up is sencond to none. The music they pumped out sounded better than their CD’s. I would highly recommend attending one of their concerts if you ever get chance. The music is easy to listen to and draws a fun crowd. There is an open area around the center stage for dancing and there is seating around the perimeter. So, it caters to all concert goers. If you want to sit and have cocktails or dance the night away you have options for either.
Started working with very limited sources. He had to improvise to make his magazine work. There was no budget to speak of, so he had to make due with what he had. He began to crop and enlarge pieces of letters that he recieved to make something more to work with. The methods he used were very experimental and turned out to work quite well. I liked the way that he went with the flow of things and let his creativity flow freely. His style became known as Grunge Typography.
I would like my self portrait to symbolize what I like to do. A representation of how I live and feel about matters that pertain to life. I would like for it to reflect my true inner self. Perhaps this could be a tool to find out how I really feel and way to search deeper into my soul. I’m interested to see what I come up with. Also, how other people go about portraying themselves. Their ideas could possibly help myself in creating a good self portrait.
